LEON, AN EXCITEMENT CITY
Because of its perfect location in the heart of Mexico, the city of Leon Guanajuato is a strategic host for fairs, expositions, conferences and conventions. Leon is changing rapidly and 2011 has been a very prolific year for meeting tourism in the city. The Leon CVB has been designated by the organizers of congresses and conventions as the Best CVB in Mexico. Also, the Mexican Tourism Board has named Leon an Emerging Destination. The city won 55% more events last year and 2012 will be another year of growth, with 110 confirmed national and international events.
Besides itsflagship events like the Leon Hot Air Balloon Festival and the World Rally Championships auto race (WRC), the city ofLeonhosts each year more and more international events. In 2010, the World Youth Forum attracted 25,000 people from 112 countries and in 2012 the city is hosting the International Debate Education Association (IDEA) Youth Forum. These results explain why Leon is recognized as a leader in Mexico's meetings tourism industry and why the city will be the site of the National Meetings Tourism Congress in 2012.
